Which geometry tool should I use?

Round shapesUse Circle tools when you know radius or diameter and need area or circumference.

Circles

The circle tool uses radius to find area and circumference. Area is πr², while circumference is 2πr. Diameter is twice the radius, so entering a diameter as though it were a radius makes the calculated area four times too large. Label the input before measuring and keep sufficient decimal precision until the final result.

Triangles

Triangle area is one half of base multiplied by perpendicular height. The height is not automatically the length of a sloping side. For a real room, roof or plot, confirm that the selected dimensions describe the intended triangle and that the base and height are measured in the same unit.

Right triangles

The Pythagorean tool uses a² + b² = c², where c is the hypotenuse opposite the right angle. It applies only to right triangles. A useful check is the 3-4-5 relationship: 3² + 4² equals 5². If the triangle is not right-angled, use a method based on its actual angles and sides.

Volume and material estimates

Volume tools combine three-dimensional measurements and report cubic units. A rectangular volume is length × width × height; other shapes use different formulas. Material orders often require allowances for waste, compaction, thickness variation and packaging sizes, so a geometric volume is the beginning of a purchasing estimate rather than the final order.

Common geometry mistakes

Mixing centimetres with metres is the most common source of scale errors. Convert every input to one unit before applying the formula and attach the correct squared or cubed unit to the result. Do not round π or an intermediate square root too early. Confirm whether a measurement is a radius, diameter, perpendicular height, sloping length, inside dimension or outside dimension. Finally, compare the answer with a rough physical estimate. A circle with radius 1 should have area a little above 3 square units, and the hypotenuse of a right triangle must be longer than either leg. These checks often expose a swapped field immediately.
